UPstart began as an Entrepreneurship learning center at Union Pines High School. The program began in 2013.
UPstart has attracted students who are diverse thinkers, interested in learning to develop business skills for the global economy. They are being trained to create sustainable start-ups that solve problems.
Since we know that the majority of our nation's job creation comes from small business, we believe that nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit is critical to a student's financial success. To that end we have constructed a facility designed to accommodate instruction, concept development and team building. Projects created here will become prototypes for new business concepts. They will provide opportunities for students to test their ideas and evaluate their ability to solve real world problems. UPstart students work with mentors and business leaders to ensure that their ideas meet the criteria of plausibility and relevance. They are expected to produce examples of ideas that can be critiqued, tested and adapted to the real world.
Our project is just beginning to attract the best and brightest potential entrepreneurs and the demand is very high. We are committed to providing more than just the best curriculum and the best instructors. Our goal is to revise the way students think and learn. By exposing these students to basic economic principles, cutting edge technology and alternative attitudes about education, the program will inspire them to think in new and different ways. Our message is that the world is changing so rapidly that it is critical to be able to see not only what is new but what has not yet been imagined.
